WP911
After early retirement I want to return to the workforce. How do I handle this in a resume?
Rant: After working 12 hour days six days a week for eight years I decided to retire early. I spent the last four years enjoying my family and remodeling several family owned homes. I realize now that at 59 I retired too early. I miss being part of a team working to achieve specific goals. How do I handle this change of heart on my resume.

I experienced a problem at work and I'm not sure how to deal with it now. A co-worker of mine accused me of purposely neglecting to do something that both of us were asked to do. I never heard the request because I was busy, and my co-worker assumed I had ignored the request and was sore that they ended up doing the other task. They ended up stewing over this and later blew up at me, having assumed that they were made to do their job because I had refused to. When the co-worker of mine got angry with me, I had no idea why or what was going on and asked them what was the matter. The reply I got was full of accusation, and so I went to both of my managers and told them about what had happened. Neither manager wanted to address the problem, and in the meantime my co-worker started bad-mouthing me to others. Realizing this was happening, I again went to my managers in an effort to get some resolution before the problem got bigger and more out of hand. Long story short: the whole thing ended up unresolved and I dropped it. It was apparent that my co-worker was not interested in being honest and denied getting upset and saying the things she did to me, and tried to make me look bad for the whole incident. The next day our manager asked us both to sign a paper admitting that we had both behaved inappropriately. I explained to my manager that I had attempted to explain the nature of the conflict and tried to seek out some resolution but it was denied. I had never been allowed to share what happened, and when I was presented with paper to sign essentially admitting that I had done something wrong, I refused because I knew I had done nothing wrong.

I have no idea what is going to happen at work tomorrow, but since I refused to sign the paper I'm not sure if they will fire me or not. I do not believe they have any reason to fire me because I did not act out of line. They are simply taking an easy by saying everyone is to blame, sort of like in kindergarten when one child broke the rules so the whole class had to stay in for recess as a punishment. The whole thing is so juvenile.

What should I do in the event I end up being punished for this incident? Any advice?

I have a situation at home where my wife doesn't want to hear ANYTHING about work. She says she just doesn't care about. We have 4 children at home and I do travel about 25% of the time. My wife is a full-time homemaker.

Is it wrong that I expect/depend on my wife to listen when I want to share a frustration or an interesting story from my workday? Is it normal that a spouse will boycott discussions from work completely?

Comment on Dirty Work–tired of my boss asking me to do unethical things by James Zhang

Dear Administrator:

I am employed by Arbitron Inc as a software engineer. I am US Citizen.

Since I joined the company, I work in a Special Project group under the management of Mr. Buddy Krug. However, some of the work instructions from my manager, which I think, are illegal according to the law. It troubled me very much. It becomes my emotional burden to handle those kinds of work instructions. Although I tried to detour the instructions and gave him my opinions for how to pursue technical solutions without broking the law anytime I got “advice” from my boss for his good” idea, the similar instructions would keep coming back to me almost every week. It seems that my boss is persistent and determined with his ideas which are not legal to follow. All his ideas (as the work instructions) could be classified into three categories: Creating computer virus style software; Wiretapping communications; and Hacking a third-party device to retrieve information from it. Therefore, I need your advice for how can I eventually be immunized from this kind of hazard working environment.

Here are some of the examples of those work instructions:

(1) Computer Virus:
Scenario
…. Could you investigate/figure out/design software which could be sent to a mobile device (cellular/smart phone) through email or text message, after the phone receives email/message, the software will automatically (without user’s participation or authorization) be installed to the device and runs by itself….

(2) Wiretapping
Scenario
…… Could you design/find the way to intercept the Bluetooth wireless signal….
…….Could you install the software which could record the voice of the telephone conversation……

(3) Hack a Computer or a Device
Scenario
……Could you design software installed to a device (Smartphone, Cellular Phone etc) which could get the information such as the user’s activities, the telephone numbers being called, the Internet sites which the user has visited, and the text messages the user has received/sent……
In one occasion, my boss specifically ask me to talk to a vendor (a consulting company) asking them how to hack a computer. After I refused to obey his instruction, he himself asked the vendor "Could you tell us how to hack the Smartphone" during the telephone conference call. The vendor just replied "it is interesting question; we will get the answer back to you at next telephone conference". A week later, when I asked my boss what was the answer from the vendor? He told me "The company is a joke, it is out of the picture now (means we are no longer doing business with this company)".

I can be reached via this email account, or cell-phone (856) 312-1688. Thank you, expecting your advice.

Sincerely,
James

I am an LPN,I supervise CNA's. I was talking to One of my CNA's , ordering her not to do something. She Smacked her lips, waved her hand and yelled "OK!" in a very sarcastic mannner and walked away while I was still talking. Could that be concidered insubordination?
